Area & Property Details

Japan’s ancient capital for more than 1000 years, Kyoto retains the vestiges of this rich history in the numerous traditional houses and approximately 2,000 temples and shrines that cover its landscape. Among these, Kinkakuji Temple (the Golden Pavilion), with its richly-adorned gold leaf exterior reflecting beautifully in the waters of Kyokochi (“mirror”) pond, is Japan’s most recognized temple and a stunning sight to behold.
Kiyomizu-dera Temple offers another must-see location and is one of the most-visited spots in Kyoto. At Heian-Jingu Shrine built in 794, visitors can witness a scaled-down reproduction of the original Imperial Palace (Daigokuden).
In fact, most of the traditional culture, arts and cuisine of Japan have originated and evolved in Kyoto. For an immersive experience in Japanese traditions, there is no better place than this city.
Toji Temple was founded as a guardian temple for the city in 796 and is one of Kyoto’s many UNESCO world heritage sites. It features a Five-story Pagoda (Gojunoto), the tallest of such structure in Japan, and the Houmotsukan Exhibition Hall, which opens twice a year from March 20 to May 25 and September 20 to November 25 to showcase its historical treasures to the public.
On the 21st of each month, Mieku - also known as the Kobo-ichi market - is held at the temple grounds, and the Garakuta-ichi antique market opens monthly on the first Sunday. It is also worth experiencing the temple’s breath-taking cherry blossoms, offering guests a view of the 130-year-old "Fujizakura" flowers, among many other cherry trees.
Just a stone's throw away from Sunrise Suites, Kyoto Station is a major transportation hub for Western Japan and is housed in one of the country's largest architectural structures. In addition to the station itself, there are numerous shops, restaurants, department stores, theatres, a hotel and other facilities available. Yodobashi Camera and AEON Shopping Mall are close by the station as well.
Sunrise Suites Kyoto sits in the southern part of the city just opposite Toji Temple and a short walk from the Kyoto Aquarium and Train Museum. This boutique property features 15 spacious suites offering traditional Japanese motifs and designs and intimate Japanese Gardens. The hotel comes complete with a modern kitchenette and laundry facilities and is ideal for both long and short-term visitors looking for a convenient location with exceptional facilities.
